Pallone Receives #1 - Top Ballot Position
Representative John Pallone (D-Armstrong/Westmoreland) received the #1 Top Ballot Position on the April 22nd General Primary Ballot. The Department of State, Bureau of Elections drew lots to determine the respective ballot positions for the Candidates for the April 22nd General Primary Election and the #1 position went to Pallone.
Pallone responded that he was pleased to receive the #1 ballot position but indicated that he will continue to aggressively canvas the 54th Legislative District to garner support for his election. Having visited nearly 2000 families already this election season, Pallone believes that his personal ethics and values together with his diverse background, including both private sector and public sector employment experience, enables him to better understand and appreciate the diverse needs of the 54th District. The 54th Legislative District includes, Arnold, Export, Lower Burrell, New Kensington, Upper Burrell, and parts of Allegheny Township, Murrysville and Penn Township in Westmoreland County and Bethel, Cadogan, Gilpin and Parks Townships in Armstrong County.
Pallone's seniority and his important committee assignments, have enabled him to bring millions of dollars back to the district for a variety of projects, including a number of road and bridge projects, the Commuter Rail from the Alle-Kiski Valley to Pittsburgh, increased funding for special and basic education, funding for recreation programs and public libraries and much more.

State Representative John E. Pallone, D – Armstrong & Westmoreland Counties, announced that he is seeking a fifth term in office. Representative Pallone was first was elected to represent the 54th District in 2000 to replace retiring State Representative Terry VanHorne. The 54th Legislative District includes Arnold, New Kensington, Lower Burrell, Upper Burrell, Allegheny Township, Murrysville, Export and part of Penn Township in Westmoreland County and Cadogan, Gilpin, Parks and Bethel Townships in Armstrong County.
Pallone gathered over 900 signatures – more than three times the required number -- on his nominating petition. Pallone said, "I am proud to receive such strong support from the people of the 54th Legislative District who have allowed me to serve them. I can honestly say that I am truly honored to represent the people."
Representative Pallone has remained committed to the people of the 54th District and has a reputation for supporting stability and growth within the area. “Since I took office, I have literally brought hundreds of millions of dollars in grant money and state project dollars back to the 54th District and most recently, I was instrumental in securing millions of dollars in necessary funding to restore and improve the Freeport Bridge.”
“Property tax reduction and elimination is one of the most important issues facing Pennsylvanians today and I voted YES for legislation that will reduce your school property taxes. I am committed to reducing your property taxes even further and ultimately eliminating your school property taxes by vigorously supporting additional tax reform legislation.”
Representative Pallone has worked to improve the quality of life for all Pennsylvanians by supporting financial assistance for our volunteer firefighters, local police and emergency personnel. According to Pallone, he is working hard to serve his constituents by creating and retaining jobs, improving economic development, improving infrastructure – roads, bridges, mass transit and commuter rail service from the Alle-Kiski Valley to Pittsburgh, increasing public education funding more than 25% to all seven local area school districts since he took office, securing millions of dollars in grants for all 12 communities in the 54th Legislative District, and voted to reduce the cost of prescription drugs for our senior citizens by expanding the PACE/PACENET Program,
“My seniority, together with my important committee assignments, has enabled me to bring millions of dollars to the district for a variety of infrastructure improvement projects, funding for the second phase of the commuter rail study necessary to secure federal funding, increased funding for special and basic education, funding for recreation programs and public libraries and much more,” Pallone said.
Representative Pallone is one of only a few current representatives that voted against and did not accept the 2001 pension grab instituted by then Republican Governor Tom Ridge. Pallone also spoke out and voted against the controversial 2005 pay raise, did not accept the unvouchered expense payment, and voted to repeal the pay raise.
If re-elected, Representative Pallone will continue to WORK FOR YOU by developing a plan to improve the economic climate within the region to attract and retain businesses. Pallone will continue his fight to deliver meaningful property tax relief or elimination and develop a plan to keep our youth in the area. With government, industry and education working together and continued job training, we can create meaningful employment opportunities so our young people can continue to live and work here.
A lifelong resident of the communities of Arnold & New Kensington and the 54th Legislative District, Representative Pallone serves on numerous House committees, including the Judiciary Committee where he is also the Majority Chairman of the Subcommittee on Crimes and Corrections, the Education Committee, the Tourism and Recreation Committee where he is also the Majority Chairman of the Subcommittee on Recreation, the new Gaming Oversight Committee and the Democrat Policy Committees.
Having received 82% of the Committee Vote on February 23, 2008, the Westmoreland County Democratic County Committee endorsed Pallone’s candidacy for re-election. “This is only the first wave to victory and in preparation for the Primary Election, I will continue to be vigorously campaigning throughout the district asking for support of my candidacy and the Westmoreland County Democratic Committee Endorsement will help assure my victory in the Primary Election on April 22nd,” Pallone said when asked about the importance of the endorsement.
Representative John Pallone is 47 years old, married and has been a life-long resident of the Alle-Kiski Valley and the 54th Legislative District. He is a graduate of Valley High School, Grove City College where he earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics & Business and earned his Juris Doctor at the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law. His employment background and experience documents professional experience in both the public and private sectors.
